About this deal

Well I haven't seen that on an 8K A4, but similar problems on the 4F A6 are common due to a burnt out earth pin on the rear light unit bulb holder and its plug but this gives a dash warning. Is the bulb warning coming up on the dash? We are also seeing this earth terminal issue on the 8J TT now.No warning on car at all. Have changed both bulbs today and it's exactly the same. Light on the switch comes on for around a second then goes off.

Fog lights are present on the rear and front of vehicles. Since front fog lights are not legally required, many manufacturers do not provide front fog lights.Like I said this topic is a sensitive one because people seem to be polarized as to which is the "Proper" solution. This same question comes up a lot, in euro version Benz both left and right rear fogs are wired up and work as expected. On all USA version cars, only drivers side is provided for, because of US DOT regulation that prohibits BOTH Rear fogs, ONLY Emergency vehicles in the US are allowed to have both, so Benz only wired up the left side to comply. Generally, main headlights are to be used in low visibility conditions. Fog lights should be used only when the visibility falls to less than 100m. 6. Why should you turn your fog lights off when visibility improves? Fog light symbols - to turn them on or off - can usually be found on a button on the dashboard, on a steering wheel stalk, or next to the dial you use to control your regular lights. It would appear DVLA can't agree with itself ! I note you don't mention any requirement for the height of reflectors.

To help motorists keep be as safe as possible, here’s a helpful look into the way to drive in the fog, how to use your fog lights, and how to understand your fog lights symbols. What Do Fog Lights Do? Anyway here are a few links, but just don't let others lead you down the path, get on google and do some homework yourself. If the test is unsuccessful, what else could it be other than a break in the wire somewhere? A dodgy earth? If so where would I look for that? TOP TIP: If you don’t have a helper, park next to something reflective. A wall or garage door will do.

I did first swap out ONLY the euro panel to my original LCM and it did not activate the rear fogs. The light came on for rear fog on the instrument panel but it did not actually light up the rear taillight. In most cases, when importing a car over 10 years old from Japan, the only thing that has to be done before taking it for its first MOT is to fit a rear fog light. For readers outside the UK, the MOT test is an inspection that the vast majority of vehicles on UK roads have to pass every year, once they are 3 years old. You can read more about MOT testing here. The IVA inspection looks at the way your vehicle is constructed or adapted, while the annual MOT test looks at roadworthiness of your vehicle. Since rear fog lights are compulsory, every car will have at least one rear fog light. Front fog lights are not compulsory, so only few cars come with them. 4. What is the purpose of fog lights in a car? take care when overtaking vehicles spreading salt or other de-icer, particularly if you are riding a motorcycle or cycle

When I unplugged the wires connecing the rear fog lamp switch to the loom, the voltmeter was still reading 8 - 9v on the rear bulb holder. You can use your car’s fog lights using the buttons assigned for them, about which we discussed above. How To Turn On Your Fog Lights? The dim glow is extinguished when the lights are on - and then all the other switches attain a dim glow as expected. I'm concerned by activating the airbag by mistake when connecting the wires to the new unit (I don't really understand how the airbag is activated / what safety precautions I need to take)

Do all cars have to have fog lights?

As per the Highway Code, fog lights should be switched off when the visibility is normal, or if it improves after a period of being foggy. Leaving the fog lights on can dazzles drivers ahead. Neither the front nor the rear fog lights can be left turned on when your vehicle is parked, or you may get fined for incorrect usage of your fog lights. Do All Cars Have Fog Lights? The other fusebox in the glove compartment - according to trhe manual - does not have a fuse for the rear fog.

Daytime running lights (DRL), on the other hand, are completely different, and are always on. They are mostly to make your car more visible, than to provide extra illumination. They have been a legal requirement in the UK since 2011. What Are The Fog Light Symbols?

Daytime running lights and fog

Before replacing the entire unit (removing airbag / steering wheel etc) can I simply disconnect the wiring from the current unit and connect it to the replacement unit to test the new switch without causing any issues? The whole purpose of fog lights is so that you can see the road on which you are travelling, with clarity. This is because we do not have a compatible climatic condition in the UK, and are sometimes prone to experiencing extreme temperatures, which also includes fog, all of which make driving extremely difficult. Front fog lights can cut through mist, fog, rain or even dust as they are mounted lower down than headlights in the front of the car. Fog lights can also be used to drive in winter, when visibility is low, which is a major winter driving tip. I am not going to argue this point with anyone, or try to change their point of view. If you beleive there should be "NO, or ONE, or TWO" rear fog lights it's up to you. For me personally, I choose TWO for additional safety so that no one will rear-end me in very low visability conditions. The justification is that I will never use them when they are not needed. got pulled over for using red rear foglight in a blinding snow storm.... was told rear foglights are ILLEGAL in Virginia, is this true? Use your lights if visibility is reduced to 100 metres (328 feet) or roughly the length of a football pitch
