About this deal

Opponent’s Deployment Zone: If you control at least half of the objective markers in your opponent’s deployment zone, then his/her deployment zone is considered within the Shadow Of Chaos. Holding his newly-acquired severed heads aloft, this iconic Herald of Khorne inspires lesser daemons to put their nose to the (skull)grindstone. His Lord of Decapitations ability allows him to boost the frenzied accuracy of a BLOODLETTERS unit within 6″… then 9″… then 12″. There’s no escape! Use this after a Chaos Character from your army summons a unit of Daemons using a Daemonic Ritual. That character can immediately attempt to summon a second unit of Daemons using Daemonic Ritual.

Remember in 8th edition, where dedicating your units to a Chaos god just meant getting an extra keyword, which could sometimes interact with other rules? Well that’s all in the past! Now you can pay points to mark a unit as dedicated to a particular god, not only giving it the keyword, but giving it a bonus ability. Slaanesh units fight first, Khorne units get +1 Strength on the charge, Tzeentch units ignore their first failed save per turn, and Nurgle units give opponents -1 to wound in certain situations. While not every unit can be marked, the units you can mark will have more flavour than before. 2. Every Legion has cool stuff and a different playstyle Roll a dice each time your Warlord suffers Perils of the Warp; on a 2+ they do no suffer Perils of the Warp. The Shadow Of Chaos is a thematic army rule, based around the idea of Daemons reshaping realspace into a terrifying mirror image of the Warp. While the Shadow Of Chaos doesn’t innately do anything, it synergizes with all sorts of other rules in the codex, and is a key part of how this army will function in 10th Edition. The Shadow Of Chaos can be divided into 3 areas of the battlefield: Don: This is the Discipline that Sorcerers, Daemon Princes, Legionaries, and most Chaos Space Marines have access to. You still have access to the mono God powers that are basically unchanged, except the tzeentch one is just a 4++ invulnerable save on the Tzeentch unit you cast it on, and it now has Warp Charge 7. Also, they’re free if your Psyker unit has the mark – no more having to give one of your other powers up for them. Malediction. If manifested, select one enemy unit that is within 18? of and visible to this PSYKER. Roll 3D6; if the result is greater than the enemy unit’s Leadership characteristic, select one of the following to apply to that unit until the start of your next Psychic phase. If that unit has any Aura abilities, select one of those abilities. Until the start of your next Psychic phase, that unit loses that ability. Until the start of your next Psychic phase, that unit cannot perform actions (if that unit is currently performing an action, it immediately fails).Until the start of your next Psychic phase, in the Fight phase, that unit is not eligible to fight that phase until after all eligible units from your army have done so.

Outlook: Decent

A big change in this book is that three of the four god-specific “special” Marine units don’t appear in it, with only Noise Marines getting an updated datasheet. Do not despair, however – you can still bring your Khorne Berserkers, Plague Marines and Rubricae along. The Slaves to Darkness rule lays out how, plus makes Noise Marines and the Emperor’s Children work analagously to the special Marines from the other three god-specific legions.. This book does everything we could possibly want from a Codex for the Chaos Daemons. It's full of great imagery, the rules are expansive and customizable, and it really opens up the Chaos Daemons into a new realm of play for gamers hoping to modernize their Daemon armies. Our invulns versus shooting have largely become worse. Our invulns versus melee have largely become better. With variable Daemon Saves being removed in favor of one flat invuln save per unit, our defensive profiles have been simplified. The good news is that with “ignores invuln” effects being almost entirely removed from the game, our invuln saves will actually feel like invuln saves again. Note that Daemons aren’t hypocrites about this: Our three big sources of “ignore invulns” damage ourselves, Skarbrand, Be’lakor, and Skulltaker, have all lost their “ignore invulns” rules. Use this at the end of the Fight phase. Select one of your Khorne Daemon units – that unit can immediately fight again. Rob: Something big to note here is that while you have to mark Plague Marines and Rubric units, neither unit actually gains the ICON keyword from taking an Icon, so they can never get the second ability. Marks on Other Units If a CHARACTER with the DAEMON Faction keyword is your Warlord, it can generate a Warlord Trait from one of the following tables instead of the one in theWarhammer 40,000 rulebook. You can either roll on the appropriate table to randomly generate a Warlord Trait, or you can select the one that best suits theWarlord’s temperament and preferred style of warfare. Warlords can only generate Warlord Traits from their own Chaos God (e.g. KHORNE Warlords can only have a Khorne Warlord Trait). Warp Rifts is a powerful rule on the surface, and combos incredibly well with some of the charge bonuses Daemons have access to. With many units having +1 to Charge or access to Charge rerolls of some sort, Daemons will be one of the few armies in the game with reliable deepstrike charges.Death Guard players had to wait months longer than planned, but when the codex did come, it came along with some extra goodies – primarily the long-teased and fundamentally foul Lord of Virulence model, and a Death Guard Combat Patrol starter box – the first of its kind for a Chaos army. If your army is led by a Warlord with the TZEENTCH DAEMON Faction keywords, you can give one of the following Hellforged Artefacts to an EXALTED LORD OF CHANGE model from your army, instead of giving them a Hellforged Artefact from another source.

Prior to releasing the new T’au Empire book, GW published a string ofreveals outlining much improved subfaction rules for the six different T’au Septs, as well as totally reworked rules for the Mont’ka and Kauyon Tactical Philosophies; Crusade narrative rules including options for something called ‘diplomacy’; and an array of terrifyingly up-powered ranged weaponry(with accompanying Relics) that, by all accounts, are Making T’au Shooting Scary Again.

Death Hex: The most compelling reason to dip into this discipline. It is completely unchanged from last edition and extremely useful in those niche situations where invulnerable saves are frequent or extremely strong like Daemons, Drukhari, harlequins, Knights, and more. 8/10
