About this deal

Location of the extruder directly above the hot-end nozzle insures there are no inaccuracies feeding the filament due to feed 'sheath flexing' as can occur with extruders located on the printer frame which feed the filament through a tube to the hot-end assembly. I may post some more pics of prints later but I wanted to get this started to let people start discussing and sharing information. The whole assembly and calibration business can be dealt with in less than 20 minutes if performed by an experienced user. I was thinking about adding the BLtouch but I haven’t needed to yet, and it’s something that I can always just do, so it hasn’t come up yet. However, Artillery has hot glued the connectors to the control board, requiring users to melt the glue before removing cables.

Considering the amount of air it pulls out from the base, it can be considered silent and efficient. The first thing you want to look for in a great 3D printer is obviously, drum roll, please, print quality. In light of the fact that the whole assembly is cooled by this particular fan, it indeed is a quiet and efficient one. There’s no profiles for PETG or any other materials included – and with this “improved” hotend, the printer caps out at around 240, or at most 250°C before the PTFE starts to get damaged.Power Failure Protection - Continue printing from the position where the last print was stopped during the power failure, and you can stop the continuous operation or power off. One where our 2D thoughts are turned into 3D realities and where you have full control of your creative experiments, with a little help from an online expert community that loves to share what we do. I did not have any issues assembling it right out of the box and I think I had the test print going within an hour or so of opening it. However, since then, several new brands have emerged, bringing competition to the affordable 3D printer market. The latest 3D printer Artillery made was the Hornet — an entry-level educational machine that was launched in 2020.

One thing to note is that this printer does take up a tremendous amount of space, with the benefit being that you really can print some huge objects! It’s also been very reliable for me so far, which is something that you really need for a printer this size. However, the Sidewinder X1 is constructed out of heavy 2060 aluminum extrusion, compensating for the heavy direct drive extruder. With its large base, users have an enormous amount of space to access the control board and other electronics of the X1. To push the Artillery Sidewinder X1, we printed an extremely large low polygon Pikachu measuring nearly 400mm tall. I am not an expert, this is my first 3D printer, but I am very pleased with it and glad I made this choice.

As a complete novice, I am thrilled to bits with my X1 v4 and would recommend it to anyone who wants a well made, cost effective machine. Artillery was among the first to create a 3D printer that not only replicated Creality’s designs but actually improved on them in many ways. I don’t really see this being an issue and in fact, a lot of people discussed online that they just take the belt off.

Since this printer has an Ultrabase coating on it, I used blue painters tape to print the TPU as I didn’t want any chances of ruining my brand new print surface or getting TPU permanently stuck in it. The volcano hot end is capable of higher flow rates (because it can melt the plastic filament faster) meaning it can print fast if needed.

The extra chasis stability offered by this design contributes to a superior finish on your prints, but you do need to ensure everything is adjusted correctly when first setting it up. This is a great usability improvement since users do not need to use build adhesives like glue sticks or hairspray for prints to stick reliably to the bed. If this one has an oopsie, it can mean days of printing lost instead of just a couple of hours on a smaller machine. I contacted Creality support in the past, and received a reply after a few days, but EVNOVO support was really fast. The Artillery Sidewinder X1 stands on an all-metal base with ventilation holes located on its sides. Flexible beds on affordable 3D printers tend to be placed on warped aluminum heated beds which is bad for print adhesion. For this reason, we use cookies and third-party services to improve the services we offer, display relevant advertisments and receive usage statistics. The use of two Z-Axis stepper motors removes this weakness since both sides of the X-Axis is supported and actively driven.
