About this deal

For some reason Sky have not added the ability to detect automated clashes to their Sky box firmware. It can detect if you are trying to add a program to your planner that will clash with two existing programs but it cannot detect if it does it itself due to scheduling changes and Next Series additions. Instead Sky added this feature to their Sky+ app available for tablets and smartphones. The Keep option prevents you from accidentally deleting a recording that you want to keep or from stopping the automated housekeeping software from deleting programs that you want to keep. What it cannot do however is prevent Sky from deleting a program from your recordings because the program in question has an expiry date or because Sky has a legal obligation to remove it. If your Sky internet router has a WPS button on it then connecting your new box couldn't be simpler - just press and hold the button on your router for two seconds and then press the WPS button on your Sky+HD box and the two will pair up. Cant fault it the Samsung is in no dout better than the Amstrad, I don't care if people say that the Amstrad is quiet my top 3 I want from a box are picture quality sd & hd, response ie EPG, 100% recordings. The box needs to be quiet but its not the top 3 maybe 4-5 I think, with a lot of things like this, the overal impression of the box or kit in question is going to be down to a lot of things including first impressions (mine was very poor), the quality of your signal and the broadcast (?), the display and seating distances? I am still convinced that some displays are going to struggle with SD because they are designed with HD in mind and the resolutions don't match up well. My Sharp only just manages 1080i, but was designed with SD in mind so the majority of SD pictures are crystal clear at my current settings and seating distances.

A system reset is only recommended when you have exhausted all other options such as multiple software updates. The Sky+HD box has firmware that boots the box and loads the operating system. The EPG, planner and recordings are stored on the hard drive. When the hard drive contains corrupted data the Sky box has no built-in recovery software to resolve the corruption like Microsoft Windows or Linux does so it just says that the box is in "diskless mode". The "corruption" that made your box enter diskless mode is not necessarily a hardware corruption but could be a software corruption that occurred during the automated system software update. Some of us have figured out that forcing a software update can sometimes resolve the corruption but in most cases it requires a system reset. A system reset completely wipes your hard drive and reinstalls the system software and allows the hard drive itself to mark any areas as bad. Of course you lose your planner and recordings in the process. You could take resolution a step further by removing your hard drive from the Sky box, inserting it into a caddy and connecting it to a computer running hard drive diagnostics and repair software. Or, you could extend your box's life by inserting a new hard drive and performing a system reset to format it and use it as your new storage device. The Sky software supports up to 2TB hard drives.

NOW TV is available on demand with single day or monthly passes and can make accessing SKY’s services much easier and cheaper. Just thought I give my review of these two boxes (Amstrad & Samsung) as I have had both. I had an Amstrad fitted on the 19th Dec and my thirst thoughts were that its quiet, goodish HD, no failed recordings, 70 signal strength etc. However i was not that convinced it was that sharp on SD. So after a month of playing with the settings i still thought that the SD could be better. So phoned Sky asked them if I could have new box (Samsung or Pace) and agreed to replace it. I had a Samsung fitted on 15th Jan and here's my thoughts If you need a replacement Sky Q box, of any size, then the replacement procedure is relatively simple. Bear in mind that if you have Sky Q, then you do not actually own the equipment that you use.

Final words..

Here is a list of the failure codes that I have encountered so far, along with the common problem associated with the fault code and suggestions for resolving. The DLNA server component still works following the end of your Sky TV subscription so Sky apps can still access your Sky boxes, but with limited functionality. PcW9256 (Z80, 3.5MHz, 256 KB RAM, single 720 KB 3.5" floppy drive, dot-matrix printer, "paper white" screen) The most fundamental change from earlier Sky propositions is the revamped and engorged on-demand offerings.
